Church Mouse - June 2008

Church Mouse - Oviedo Presbyterian Church
Notes from our very own "nosy" church mouse.

Hi folks,

Spring has sprung around here and not just the lilies outside! On Mother's Day, several ladies in the congregation showed up all dressed up in their Sunday best from head to toe. From my seat atop the piano, I looked out on a sea of lovely hats that spruced up the occasion and added to the beauty of honoring all mothers, here and in heaven. Next time this country mouse goes to town, I am going to look for a hat for next year. Look for me in the picture Rebecca takes in 2009.

Speaking of pictures, you keep me so well fed around this church, that I may have to diet before I let you snap one of me. The Caribbean-American dinner held here on May 17th put a few pounds on everyone that attended. I stayed under the serving table hoping someone would drop a piece of goat or jerk chicken, but not a drop fell my way. There was two rows of eight tables, so I made a run for it and settled in right up front under Judy Labriola's chair. No one could see me because of the long linen tablecloth. I could hear all the smacking of lips and favorable comments about how good all the food tasted.

Pastor Paul made an announcement for people not to leave and stay seated as a group of young girls from Tuscawilla Methodist church were about to perform and what a delightful performance it was! They had Jamaican music playing in the background to add to the theme of the night. In fact, two sisters originated from Jamaica and invited the audience to participate in a routine to "Down Manuel Road" which had us all clapping enthusiastically. We all felt like we were from Kingston, even this little mouse! To climax the evening, Brielle Coleman and Brendon Lay graced us all by playing the piano while we had coffee and dessert. I made a last minute run for crumbs before everyone pitched in to clean up and take down the tables. I was so full that I fell asleep curled up in the choir room before the doors were locked for the night. I am definitely looking forward to more dinners even if I am getting a little pudgy.

See you next month unless I hitch a ride for a summer vacation with one of you. Don't be surprised if I show up when you open your suitcase!
