Out with the Bad ... - 1 Peter 1:23-2:5 Sermon
May 24, 2026
You have been born anew,
not of perishable but of imperishable seed,
through the living and enduring word of God.
Just as a fly does not belong in soup, there are things that do not belong in the life of one who has been born anew in Christ. Rather than merely cleaning us up, God gives us a new birth through His living and enduring word. Jesus emphasized this repeatedly when speaking to Nicodemus, and Peter reminds us that we have been born anew through imperishable seed. As we grow in Christ, we should eagerly rid ourselves of what does not belong and develop a hunger for God's goodness, just as a hungry infant longs for milk. As God's love fills our lives, old habits lose their appeal, and we grow into the people God created and redeemed us to be.
