Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house.
Where we begin matters. Just as ancient builders began with a cornerstone, every life is built upon one starting point or another. Throughout Scripture, the cornerstone represents God's plan and faithfulness and is offered as a firm foundation. In this passage, Peter identifies Jesus as the chosen and precious cornerstone upon whom God's people must build. Not every foundation can survive life's storms, and Jesus presents a clear choice: either we build our lives on him, or we do not. When Jesus becomes more than a decorative tradition and truly serves as our foundation, he provides stability, direction, and hope. As we build our lives upon him, we increasingly resemble him and become living stones as we join together to reveal God's love to the world.
