You Are Promoted – 1 Peter 2:9-10 Sermon
June 21, 2026
Once we were not a people, but now we are God’s people;
Once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy.
Good morning, saints. Good morning, sinners.
Which most closely describes you, saint or sinner? Most of us would probably feel more comfortable somewhere in between. We hesitate to call ourselves saints because we know our own shortcomings, yet we hesitate to call ourselves sinners because we can always think of people who seem much worse than we are.
But scripture speaks differently.
Those who belong to Christ are called “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people.” Once we were not a people, but now we are God's people. Once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy. Once we were in darkness, but God has called us into his marvelous light.
All of God's people—not just a few—are called to live in God's presence, serve God, and reveal God's love and blessings to others.
We have access to God. We bring others close to God. We are a royal priesthood.
We are promoted.
